The multi-phased renovation and upgrades of eight Operating Rooms at Lahey Medical Center Burlington were carefully planned to minimize downtime and reduce disruptions to the department. To achieve this, construction was strategically scheduled during holiday weeks and implemented through double-shifted work. Given that the area remained occupied throughout the project, effective logistics planning and close coordination with the department were critical to ensuring smooth execution.
Strict adherence to ICRA/ILSM protocols was required, and modifications to MedGas and HVAC systems posed potential impacts on adjacent departments. The scope of upgrades included the conversion of MedVac to WAGD, modifications to MedGas, and HVAC improvements to support laminar flow. Additionally, new lighting, surgical lights, booms, and surgical columns were installed, along with electrical upgrades to accommodate new equipment. The project also involved rough and finish carpentry as well as general finishes to enhance the overall functionality and efficiency of the operating rooms.
